It's not because it is a pastime

I play violin for 4 years and I'm better than High-School kids (no joke), and it's not a sport.

Sure, there are competitions and stuff, but technically, it's not.

And for those who are wondering, a pastime is...

I can't explain, but it's just something you do in time.

And a sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. (I looked it up on Dictionary.com)

I take jujitsu, which is martial arts, and it is a sport- not usually competitive, but it fits the whole description.

So your saying playing an instrument doesn't take skill? So you're saying marching band isn't athletic? Why don't you try marching around while playing an instrument! So you're saying band isn't competitive? Well it is buddy and it IS A SPORT!

I agree with Tingle. Playing an instument does take skill, and MARCHING and playing at the same time takes even more skill. There are marching band competitions that are televised. And saying that marching band is not a sport is a disgrace to the ENTIRE OSU Marching Band. They're epic. You just don't understand...............

If you were to just say band was a sport, then I can go around saying that video games are a sport, you have to practice on them, same with chess, is that a sport? No, the only thing that makes marching band possibly a sport is that yes you do have to walk around while doing it, but I dont think it's a sport because generally sports involve a game of sorts...
