That's not the point, chess was an example, I'm saying that just because you walk around does not make it a sport, sports are athletic, walking does not fall into the category of athletics dictionary.reference.com/browse/athletics-+-Win32##Mozilla Firefox 3.0##1152 × 864##13-+-

What a heated discussion. But we are not just walking around. Marching and walking are two different things. I play a trumpet, and as you know, you have to hold it up to play it. Holding up an instrument, playing songs, and marching all take skill, especially doing them all at once.

So If I were to play chess while walking around I could call it a sport?

Then you agree when I say that band is not athletic, which by the way of the dictionary causes you to agree that band is not a sport.

Well I'm not actually fighting for band.It is actually MARCHING band I am fighting for. Band alone is most likely not a sport. But Marching band is both athletic and a sport

no, band is athletic chess is not. Besides do you hardly move or do anything really physical in racing either because the definition you put up considers it one.

well then im gonna lock this thread if we are done here
THE FINAL DECISION IS THAT WE DON'T AGREE IF BAND IS A SPORT OR NOT.
Csdragon: well finally you guys stop fighting... anyways if you guys didn't think it was a sport, I believe it is, this is because I actually met with omega after his band camp practices and he kept on complaining lol, but if anyone else has anything to say about this topic I suggest you at least experience what people are talking about instead of just taking a opinion that you think you believe in. Thats all, hope I didn't type too much.... =P
D-Zee: dude... dnt mod my post lol. jp =] but again: THE FINAL DECISION IS THAT WE DON'T AGREE IF BAND IS A SPORT OR NOT.

I know this thread is locked, but there is one more thing before I'm done........ Marching Band(has nothing to do with normal band) is considered a nonathletic sport. But still a sport.Since marching is sportish but band isn't, its a crossover thing. Its cionsiderdedsdtsaklgtsd(whatever) a sport, but not athletic enough(then golf shouldn't count...)to be a real sport. But I don't care what you guys think."It's not a sport, blah blah blah." but it is.It requires work, practice, cocentration, and time and dedication. Also, skill,There ARE COMPETITIONS,you CAN get tired, as in exaustion and overheating.
Again, the definition of an athlete:An athlete is a person possesing teh natural or aquired abilities or traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports. Strength:Holding the instrument ABOVE parallel to the ground, without it slowly falling.Especially heavy instruments like barritones and mellowphones.
Agility:Well, not much here....speed,and quickness...marching does not require speed ad quickness, but good posture and marching are.
Endurance:Still, holding the instrument ABOVE parallel, without it falling. The ability to keep marching, without getting out of step with the music and let your posture get out of whack.
I know I typed a lot, but if this doesn't explain itself, then fine, whatever, but what think,is BAND IS A SPORT,AND IT IS ATHLETIC!!!!! I hope this gets through your thick heads!
