Anyways I saw FP's How to use a Forum for Dummies and also, because mangopie, being a friend of mine through msn (she said "I don't know what to post about") and also seeing as so many leechers don't post..
*mangopie, not calling you a Dummie or anything *
I decided to present you with...
Firstly I'll begin by explaining How You Actually Post (which is quite simple):
Step 1: Find the thread you want to post in.
Step 2: Read the previous (or latest) comments in the thread.
[you can either go to Step 3a or 3b]
Step 3a: Scroll down to the bottom of the page and type your message in the Quick Reply box, then click 'Post Reply'
Step 3b: Look at the bottom of the last post and there should be a row of icons: add poll; reply; send topic to friend; print.
Step 4b: Click on the 'reply' button. Now you'll see a larger and more detailed version of the Quick Reply box.
Step 5b: You can change the Subject, which isnt necessary. You can change the message icon, which is basically a picture image of the main opinion of your post (Thumbs up - Good idea, Thumbs down - Bad idea).
Step 6b: You can type your message!!! You can also add little symbols and smilies in your post by using the smilie buttons , and you can also add special effects, such as bold, underline, etc by highlighting the part of your post that you want to have the effect and then clicking the respective button on the 'Add Tags' section.
So... IT'S THAT SIMPLE!
Anyways, next section: Creating a thread
Step 1: Go into the appropriate board where the thread should go, if there is no specific board to create it, then create it in the 'Others' board.
*note: Boards can only be created by Administrators, PM me to request a board be made*
Step 2: Look at the bar where it has buttons for 'mark as read', 'new thread', 'new poll'.
Step 3: Click on the new thread button.
Step 4: Now, unlike Posting, when you create a thread it MUST have a subject. So type a title for your thread in. Message icon thing is exactly the same as posting, shows your opinion using a picture.
Step 5: A thread is basically a post, except that it is the main post, and the main subject of the conversation, argument, etc... So type your starting post in (you can add smilies and special effects just like any post)!
Step 6: Click on 'Post Message'.
You've just started a thread!
Done! Next topic: What exactly do I post or create a thread about?
You can create a thread about basically anything, so long as it follows the Forum rules, so basically, no pornography, no flaming others, etc... You can use a thread to express your opinion on anything, except ppl, unless they give you their permission (I just did, so if you have any complaints about me, just tell me or create a thread). However, I dont mind if you express small opinions on other ppl.
"In my opinion ~FRoSt~ is an old fool who doenst know how to monitor a forum" is completely ok! However...
"~FRoSt~ is an old fool who doenst know how to monitor a forum" That's different. So if you are stating your opinion on someone else, just say 'imo' or 'In my Opinion' or anything along those lines.
Just learn how to respect each other. Arguments happen! I know that! An argument proves someone is better! How? The person who is better will say "Ok, we're arguing! This is ridiclous, we both have our opinions, let's keep to that. I don't agree with you, but I'll respect your opinion. Let's stop arguing and try get along" - That is great guy.
Anyways, I've kind of wandered off topic, but use threads and posts to express your opinion, even if it's just something like "lol" or "Cool".
Why do humans so successfully communicate? What makes me such a great Psychiatrist? I look in deeply for Feedback!
All in all, that's that. Hope you like this, and hope all of you will try post more!
Have a good time here and make some friends!
*FZ, if you wouldn't mind, could you add pictures, diagrams, and the cool Dummies title page.*
