People often burp when they drink carbonated drinks.Have any of you guys ever wondered why?
Why do people burp and what is involved in the process?I bet you guys don't know this one.

This is part of it it is because of the gas in the drinks like Coke

Build it up outside the water. Go underwater, then burp. Bubbles as usual.

That's true but burping actually involves lot's more of stuff.Burping is also good for health in a way.
(This thread isn't really going anywhere if everyone answers that gas builds up, gas finds way out, gas goes out through the throat, blah, blah, blah. This is the Science Questions thread you know.)

Yeah that is true like when you smoke weed for the first time your insides just start burning up a little and you feel a little light headed so you burp to help make it go away and to burp more then normal buy a soda that has gas in it (Didn't mean to bring weed in this but i couldn't think of anything else)

I asked what is involved in the process and why do those stuff make us burp. Not asking you to give me an equation saying "Fart = Burp but in a different point of view".Look at the first post guys. One more day and I'll post the answers..... (Feeling sad cause all people giving are real obvious answers and typical what I think :'(I want to ask if anyone even understand my questions?)

16 days.... PD saves the day, whoopeeeeeeee
"A burp (sometimes called a belch or by its medical term, eructation) is the release of gas from the digestive tract (in this case, the esophagus and stomach) through the mouth. It is part of the body natural clearing mechanism for removing excessive gas in the digestive tract (gastrointestinal tract).
There are number of different factors that causes burping or belching. The most common one is the swallowing of air while eating or drinking. When you eat or drink, you swallow air at the same time as you swallow your food or liquid. The trapped air (gases such as nitrogen and oxygen) in the stomach build up and rise to the upper stomach creating a pressure in surrounding area thus, causing a sensation of the need to belch. This excessive gas accumulation is then forced (regurgitated) out of the stomach and released (belched) back up for relief through the esophagus and eventually through the mouth as a burp. Interestingly, burping can be caused by swallowing air (aerophagia) when one is nervous or anxious and even unconsciously out of habit. Drinking carbonated beverages (e.g. sodas, beer and champagne containing carbon dioxide to make it fizzy), talking while eating, eating too fast, chewing gum, sucking through a straw, sucking candy, chewing tobacco, smoking a pipe or cigarettes as well as, eating onions, chocolates and drinking alcohol are some other causes that can cause (trigger or aggravate) belching. Burping (belching) can sometime be a symptom of indigestion.
Burping can also be caused intentionally from being humorous or through learned behaviors. It can be done intentionally out of entertainment of being humorous by children and some adults alike. In some eastern cultures, a belch after a good meal is considered to be a compliment for the chef. It is as a sign showing appreciation of a satisfied eater. However, in the Western world, burping out loud is considered impolite - rude and poor manners. Therefore, burping quietly and covering ones mouth is important and should be accompanied by saying "excuse me" whether your burp is loud or quiet."

W00tz!!Yeah!!PD rocks!!!W00tz!! You're totally right. But there's also the part of good health that you left out.Actually we burp to regulate the gaseous level in our bodies. This includes various gases. That's why parents pat the backs of babies to make them burp after they had milk or something else.

I can burp at will! Yeah, kinda sick and off-topic, but yeah... Isnt burping because of the carbon dioxide gas that comes out of soft-drinks...(like when you shake them!!!)

while, like the maker of the thread says, "gas" is part of it; it is not all. "gas" like in carbonated drinks is carbon in air form (dissolved into the soda, yes air CAN dissolve), but when it touches the outside air (like when u open a pop can) if fusses with the oxygen to make CO2 then when u drink the soda you put the CO2 in your body. but since your body did not make it the body does not exhale it as normal; while farts are made up of mainly methane, a little CO2, and other chemicals that are put in your body through eating/drinking; burps are made up of that same gas with a few exceptions/add ons; 1st- waaaay lower methane content and waaaay more CO2,
2nd- instead of other chemicals put in your body through eating/drinking, it has other chemicals that you inhale (breath in) that are not part of the pure 70%nitrogen and 30%oxygen air the human body was built for, while through the process of evolution our bodies have grown used to the different air content (mainly pollutants) and may have even found some use for some of them (hence the reason we dont burp constantly) but we still need to get rid of the excess waste air/gas, but we cant exhale it normally because of the way our breathing system works, so our bodies created and use the burp
while i am not 100% sure that this is correct, from my current knowledge and from basic logic i am 95% sure that this is correct

That's true.Sometimes people burp for no reason. It just comes out suddenly. And if you guys think that only gas from carbonated drinks make people burp, you are wrong. My friend can burp when he drinks a big amount of water and he can also 'force' out burps at will...... (Crazy dude......lol)
