Okay, in this topic. You can pose questions about aspects of an anime or manga such as powers, technology, theories, etc. Other's are allowed to help answer these questions, but I will attempt with my boundless knowledge to answer them all.
An example question;
Q: Is it true that Love Hina is linked to another series?
A: Yes, it is true. Love Hina is dirrectly linked to Mao-Chan and that they exist in the same world as well as both being created by Ken Akamatsu. There's also many hints that point that Negima also takes place in the same world, which would leave one to wonder the state of Japan if this was indeed true.
So go ahead and ask anything. ^^;

Actually Otaku is a slang word for nerd and it is a rather derogatory term at that. Other countries have taken the term Otaku and made it into a term for people obsessed with anime/manga/videogames minus the derogatory nature of the origina word.
As for gravity defying hair, the reason for it is typically to make the character stand out and or have a easily identifiable trait that at the same time makes said character look cool in a certain way. The gravity defying hair is also to help people distinguish at a work of fiction but this in and of it's self hasn't stopped people from emulating the hair styles. In series though the gravity defying hair is usually over looked and it's usually crossed off as bed head and or strong hair folicles that can cause the 'mange' that sits atop alot of characters heads. This also coincidentally ties in with the wide variaty of hair colors rangng from blue to multi colored, which is depending on the series and multiverse, is determined either by heridity i.e. being an alien/demon/etc. or it's just the norm.

Kk bout gravity defying hair.Like Disk said, it's mainly just a hairstyle but in certain anime series it's the hair that makes the characters special. ie, Dragonball.When Goku and his friends go SSJ, they have gravity defying hair!!And I mean a real big difference.If you need some proof I can provide it ^^
