It's great dude!!It's bout mechas too but better than Gundam in terms of plot and stuff.Alas, Gundam won in the mecha design though......

Because my english is not very good i didn´t find the way to write a good sypnosis, so the following is no my writing, I found this in a Macross site and contacted the writer of this sypnosis and he said that it's ok to use his writing, so I think it would be a good read if you want to know the plot of Macross,

The Super Dimensional Fortress Macross
The entire planet was embroiled in the darkness of a global war, but in the year 1999 A.D. an alien spaceship plunged through the atmosphere. The ship crashing through the atmosphere left so much damage in its wake and landed on an island in the South Pacific. This alien ship galvanized the people of Earth to settle their differences now that they knew alien life forms did exist with super technology. The Earth government managed to salvage and remodel the craft which they discovered was a battle fortress. Remodeling the craft they learned alien technology, and what they discovered was variable configuration machinery. Applying the alien technology to human know how, they built transforming jets and tanks. After ten years, the alien starship was complete. They called this ship the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross. This ship was had the technology to open the curtain of space and jump dimensions through hyperspace, hence the name Super Dimensional.
The entire Island of Macross which was built up around the fortress during its development celebrated its inaugural flight. That day was the human triumph of alien technology and the Variable fighter was unveiled. Before the Super Dimensional Fortress One (SDF-1) could even take off, an alien race came in search of the space ship. These powerful Zentraedi had been battling the owners of the SDF-1. With the fortress perhaps being the last vestige of this super technology, the Zentraedi were intent on capturing the ship and gaining its secrets. The city of Macross was attacked by strange alien mecha. The civilians evacuated to air tight shelters and the untried pilots battled the hordes of Zentraedi. It didn’t take long for them to learn that the alien aggressors were giant humanoids standing over 50 feet tall.
In order to avert the fighting from Earth, the virgin crew of the SDF-1 attempted a hyperspace-jump to the Moon. However, they jumped to Pluto’s orbit and took up much of the island and ocean including two battle carriers along. The entire population of Macross was incorporated inside the SDF-1. They tried to rebuild their lives knowing how long their journey back home would be. The human pilots and their advanced mecha were only matched by the sheer numbers of Zentraedi mecha. The elite pilots had to fight tooth and nail as the SDF-1 journeyed home.
The Zentraedi were a race of warriors and a product of a highly advanced society called Protoculture. Protoculture was so advanced many thousands of years in genetic engineering. And the Zentraedi were a cloned race who somehow broke away from their mysterious masters. The Zentraedi were without culture, without fraternization, and without love. With highly advanced cloning, there was no need for love. For thousands of years they had no contact with culture besides war. But watching transmissions from everyday life aboard the SDF-1 they began to fear the power of humans. Seeking to understand the humans aboard the SDF-1, the Zentraedi sent spies. The everyday life and passions of humans began to affect the Zentraedi. They began to fear that humanity had the power to make one not want to fight. Some soldiers put down their weapons and joined forces with the humans to defend all they found beautiful aboard this ship.
Seeing the corruption of Zentraedi troops, the command gave up their goals of gaining the fortress. The Zentraedi armada set out to destroy Earth, the SDF-1, and their own soldiers who were affected by humanity. The Earth was devastated in the battle between the human-Zentraedi alliance and the Zentraedi armada. With the help of pop culture, the SDF-1 was able to confuse the armada and destroy the command center. With the help of the beloved pop singer aboard the SDF-1, humanity prevailed.
The story continues as humans try to rebuild Earth and share their lives with new neighbors, the Zentraedi . . .

Edit-The humans use a High-Tech Aircraft named VF-1 Valkyrie to fight the Zentraedi army, this aircraft can transform in two modes.

Manga - loved Trigun. But I also like the 'generic' mangas of Naruto, Bleach, and One piece.
Now I find Bleach boring and One Piece quite interesting. Also like Prince of Tennis, and will read the new one someday.
Anime: Betterman and Serial Experiment Lain are quite good, but Ghost in the Shell (Anime) was my favourite. Love the 'deep' animes.
